Newsletter – July 2010

Hi Everyone!
Hope you’ve been enjoying the bit of Summer weather we’ve been having.  Let’s hope it continues as we have a couple of lovely walks coming up.
At the end of last month we had a good Bank Holiday day out at Woolsthorpe Street Market.  The “competition” to find the naffest/daftest/best bargain for a £1, produced a hilarious collection of objects, from a pig’s ear to Jon’s winning item of a “rare” book and “bookmark”.  Many thanks, to Dennis for his hospitality, and a lovely afternoon tea.
A few Oppies managed to dodge the showers and had a lovely day at The Rutland Show – no one won any prizes though!
Many thanks to Kim who, as a new member, opened up her home and put on a lovely supper.  Kurt displayed a new talent as milliner to the Morris Men, producing a spectacular hat, which was beautifully modelled by Eric!
Thanks also to Sandra for hosting a “Special Offer” Pizza night at the Tobie Norris – all those decisions over the toppings!
All those who attended the clay pigeon shooting had an enjoyable time even though it was a bit chilly. Normally you shoot with both eyes open, because it’s easier to follow the clay in flight, and in the process of finding which eye was master, it was discovered that one member, who didn’t hit anything, was cross-eyed, or both eyes were master. I am not mentioning any names but it can only be one person who has connections with a fish and chip shop! At least we managed to get most Oppies achieving some hits of the clays. Three more joined us for an excellent Sunday lunch at The Goat in Frognall.
Many thanks, to Dave and his family, for a brilliantly organized day.
As we go to press, some of us are looking forward to going to an Oakham Festival event to hear Govannen at The Wheatsheaf.  We promise not to steal any hippos!

Best wishes

The Committee
