Text Box:    Rutland Optimists www.rutlandoptimists.co.uk www.oppies.org.uk   Newsletter – NOVEMBER 2011     Hi Everyone Well we danced, and we ate, and we danced a lot more!  Some dressed up and it added to the fun.  The Anniversary Party proved the Oppies as a Group is still alive and kicking!  And let's all work together to keep it that way.  Jenny, thanks for all you did for us, it was a good night. Just one or two points to mention:  The new telephone list is ready.  Please would you check that we have your correct number and tell Sandra if you wish anything to be changed, and most importantly please remember the list is confidential to members only.  Copies of the Rules and Constitution of the Group are also now available so please collect one with your Newsletter (and read it!), particularly our newer members, as we didn't have one to give you when you joined, sorry.  Lastly, the website.  This quietly expired behind our backs!  But work is in progress to set up a much better and more eye-catching site possibly with a new name – thank you Peter – and we will let you know as soon as we are back online. Greetham Valley has been booked for our Christmas Party Night on Thursday, 15 December.  They require £5 deposit per person NOW, and full payment shortly, so please let Sandra have the money as soon as you possibly can if you would like to go. Thanks.   Hope to see all of you, at something!          Jenny PS Have a look at the new website: www.oppies.org.uk   Events Programme - NOVEMBER 2011     Fri 4th      ‘Safari Supper and Fireworks’.  Main course will be 7.00pm with Phyllis at Easton-on-the-Hill, followed by dessert with Bridget in Stamford and finish for  cheese and biscuits then fireworks with Linda at Great Casterton.  Please book in with Phyllis asap as time is short for the catering arrangements.   Fri 11th     'Below Stairs' by The College Players at Stamford Arts Centre.  7.30pm. Cost is £9/£7.50 and Jenny (Stamford) will host.   Thu 17th    ‘Pub Night’ at 'The Drum & Monkey', Casterton Road, Stamford from 8.15pm.  Please let Julie know if you will be going along.   Sat 19th    'The Spitfire Ball' at the Victoria Hall, Oakham.  7.30-11.30pm. Cost £10. 1940's dress encouraged but not essential.  Includes Big Band, Singers and Disco.  Tickets can be obtained direct from Anne Gurney on 01572 722496, or you can pay Cecilia and she will get them for you – but they are selling fast!   Sun 20th    ‘Crown Hotel, Uppingham’ 6.00pm.  'Roadrunner' will be playing between 6pm and 8pm.  They are a really good band, so if you would like to join Sandra there please let her know, preferably by text, on 07841 871216.   Tue 22nd    Committee Meeting at Sandra's 7.30pm.  If you are a non-committee member and would like to attend please contact Sandra.   Thu 24th    'Christmas Eve 1849' at Rockingham Castle.  Atmospheric guided tours through the Castle with everything as it would have been on Christmas Eve 1849!  There is a good Gift Shop and food is available, whether lunch or tea.  Suggest meet in the courtyard at 2.30pm (it is open until 8pm).  Jenny will host so please let her know if like to go.   Sat 26th    'Memories of Elvis' at Rutland County Museum.  Doors open 7.30pm.  Two-hour long concert dedicated to the early years and his epic Vegas Show.  Tickets are £14/£12.  Please book in with Pauline as soon as possible.   Sun 27th    Collyweston Ramblers Walk – a 5-mile circuit walk from Castor following the river at Ferry Meadows.  Either meet at Collyweston Village Hall at 1.30pm or contact Ann G by text to find out where the alternative meeting place will be at Castor for  1.45pm.   Mon 28th   “Monthly Meeting” at The Wheatsheaf Pub, Northgate, Oakham, from 8.30pm.  Collect your Events Programme, pay for events of your choice, have a drink and a chat and meet any new members.   Wed 30th   Meal at 'The Drum & Monkey', Casterton Road, Stamford.  7 for 7.30pm.  Your meal will need to be pre-booked and you must let Ann G know by 23rd at the latest if you wish to go.  Please either text Ann or ring her landline.     LOOKING AHEAD   December   Sat 3rd     Curry Night at Ketton Sports Club 7.30pm. (There could be alternative food it you don't like curry). Cost £5.  We can play Pool and possibly Darts to make evening more fun.  Bridget will host, and please put your name down ASAP so we have an idea of numbers for catering.    Sun 4th        Swim Night at Barnsdale.  Meet in Reception at 7.30pm but please let Julie know beforehand if you will be going so that she can sign you in.  Drink and/or refreshments afterwards at Barnsdale.   Thu 15th      Christmas Party Night and Disco at Greetham Valley Hotel. Arrive 6.45pm and the meal is at 7.30pm.  The cost will be £25 per head and they require a non-refundable deposit of £5 per head NOW!  So please would you book in with Sandra and, if possible, pay the full amount tonight, or at least the deposit. For those not at the Meeting please phone/text Sandra as soon as you receive this if you would like to go.
