As summer approaches the Rutland Optimists’ calendar is already packed with events which will give all members, be they new, regular or occasional attendees a chance to socialize and have fun. New members joining the group are saying what a great club this is and how lucky Rutland and Stamford are to have so much on offer giving singles in the area a chance to socialize.  Members who have not been around for some time, do come along and enjoy, the club is going from strength to strength.

A new committee will be elected at the AGM on 28th April.  Your prospective committee brings a huge range of talents, skills and experience to the task of taking the club through another year.  Some of our committee have served for a considerable number of years notably Diana and Jill.  We owe huge thanks to them. They have put in many hours in producing the monthly newsletter, organizing our membership lists and safeguarding money matters. Luckily Diana and Jill are willing to remain on the committee.   Fortunately, help has also appeared in the shape of new member volunteers.

More on your new committee will be reported in next month’s newsletter.  Also other changes are on the horizon, so watch this space.

We always welcome new ideas for events from members and also any volunteers to organize/host  events.  Help is given by the committee to any members who would like to try their hand at this.

There is a new idea to consider this month, which could support the idea of the club as a friendship group.  If members would like to give their birthday date (not year) to committee they could then  receive a birthday card from the club.  Derinda is willing to organize this.

April has seen some extremely enjoyable events.  Many thanks to Diana for organizing the  meal at the Horse and Jockey,  to Anne at  the Voujon Balti,  to Heather at the Slipcote and  to Julie for the meal at the Hornblower. Thanks to Jenny for getting us to French country dancing and to Blazing Brass and lastly to Jill for getting some members to walk off all this food.

The party at Ketton, a major Optimist event, has been booked for 11th October, and is an important date for your diary.  Further details to be announced.

This coming month is jam packed with events. Whatever you enjoy, take your pick and contact the named host/organizer and come along.  Please remember this person may be organizing for up to twenty or more individuals. To make matters run smoothly and help the organizer of the events please do remember to………

·        Bring your cheque book and diary to the monthly ‘Wheatsheaf’ meeting.
·        Call your host in plenty of time about the event you are interested in. Pay any money or deposit in good time and also notify the host if you cannot attend.
·        Make sure your name/identity is clear when you sign the ‘attendance sheet’ at the Wheatsheaf monthly meeting.

There are lots of goods events this month, so enjoy!
Good wishes to all members
From your committee
